XX riders started their 2010 season at the XX Maremma Cup powered by SRAM in Massa Marittima, Italy, right were 2009 had ended: on the podium, with clean sweeps of all the first spots. All the world’s best riders were in attendance and, impressively, most of them are riding on SRAM’s XX 2X10 drivetrain for upcoming season, including Olympic gold medalists Julien Absalon, and his team Orbea, and Bart Brentjens, with his new team Trek-Bart Brentjens. Also new on XX are powerhouse team Multivan Merida and the girls and boys of Felt Bionix Otztal and Lapierre.

Marco Aurelio Fontana of Cannondale Factory Racing brought home the overall victory in the week long racing series, by winning the last international XC race on sunday march 7th, and placing well in the rest of the week’s races. Marco won after a close battle with world champion Nino Schurter (Scott-Swisspower), who won the first international XC race on sunday february 28th.

Andy Kugler of Multivan Merida dominated both downtown sprint races in Massa Marittima on saturday february 27th and march 6th, while his team mate Rudy Van Houts got first in the kermesse race in Porto Santo Stefano on tuesday march 2nd.

All in all a great week of racing from the world’s best riders on some amazing trails, and an awesome chance to witness how SRAM 2X10 drivetrain has become the standard for…winning races!
